Controversy Surrounds Miss Tourism Kigezi 2024: Public Outcry and Criticism from Former Titleholders

The recently concluded Miss Tourism Kigezi 2024 event, which saw Ahumuza Patricia crowned as the new queen, has sparked significant public debate and controversy. While Patricia’s win is celebrated, many attendees and viewers were vocal about their disappointment that Tracy Musanyana, a standout contestant, was not selected for the coveted title.

Tracy Musanyana, who hails from Kabale District, captured the hearts of many with her elegance, intelligence, and charisma. She quickly became the people's favorite, and given the first runners up title garnering substantial support both online and at the event itself. Her performance throughout the competition was widely praised, and she was seen as a strong contender for the crown.

Despite her popularity, Tracy was not chosen as Miss Tourism Kigezi, leading to widespread dissatisfaction and questions from the public. Many believe that she embodied the qualities and attributes ideal for the role, and her exclusion from the top spot has raised eyebrows.

In addition to this, the decision to award both the Culture and Personality Awards to a single contestant has further fueled the controversy. Observers and attendees expressed concerns over the fairness and transparency of the judging process. Some have questioned whether the awards were distributed equitably and if all contestants were given a fair chance to shine in their respective areas of strength.

Voices from the audience and social media platforms have been loud in their critique. “Tracy Musanyana was clearly the people's choice. Her understanding of our culture and her dynamic personality made her a standout. It’s disappointing that she wasn’t recognized with the title she deserved,” commented one attendee.

Another viewer shared similar sentiments, stating, “The competition had a lot to question. Why were both the Culture and Personality Awards given to one person? It doesn’t seem fair. Tracy’s performance was exceptional, and many of us feel that she was overlooked.”

Adding to the controversy, former Miss Tourism Kigezi queens and kings have also come forward with their grievances. They accuse the initiative of neglecting them after their reigns and failing to reward them for their contributions. According to these former titleholders, the organization does not fulfill its promises made during their tenure, leaving them feeling undervalued and taken for granted.

“These people just take us for granted in the name of hiding reality and covering them in the name of promoting tourism, yet they are making money from sponsors,” lamented one former queen. “How do you pay service providers and fail to facilitate former leaders?”

The former titleholders also criticized the organization for not providing adequate support and recognition after their term ends. They highlighted the lack of financial rewards and support, which they believe is unfair given the efforts they put into promoting Kigezi’s tourism during their reign.

In response to the public outcry and the grievances of former titleholders, the organizers of the Miss Tourism Kigezi pageant have issued a statement acknowledging the feedback and assuring that they take the concerns seriously. They have committed to reviewing the judging process and making necessary adjustments to enhance the fairness and credibility of the competition in the future. Additionally, they have promised to address the issues raised by former titleholders and ensure that their contributions are adequately recognized and rewarded.
