Mpuuga Calls for Sober Leadership to Oust President Museveni. By Editor

In a recent event in Mityana Municipality, Mathias Mpuuga, the former deputy president for Buganda in the National Unity Platform (NUP), emphasized the need for sober leaders to remove President Museveni from power. Mpuuga's remarks seemed to be a critique aimed at his former ally and current rival, Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine.

Mpuuga stated that leaders aspiring to change Uganda's political situation must remain sober 24 hours a day. He highlighted that President Museveni does not drink alcohol or smoke, suggesting that aspiring leaders should follow this example. “Tell those interested in leadership positions to stop going to bars, getting drunk, and smoking marijuana,” Mpuuga said.

Mpuuga pointed out that a leader should always be sober and avoid places like bars. He mentioned that President Museveni, whom they aim to replace, is always sober and does not even drink wine.

Robert Kyagulanyi, before joining politics, was known for using marijuana during his career as a musician. However, over the years, he has changed his lifestyle, adopting a more polished appearance. It is unclear if Kyagulanyi still uses drugs, but his supporters continue to follow him for the hope he provides.

During the event, Mpuuga also criticized legislators leading the censure motion against him and commissioners involved in the controversial Sh1.7 billion service reward allocation. He claimed that many MPs acted out of ignorance and emphasized the importance of making decisions while sober. “It has become too common for MPs to not act or make decisions soberly. They need to stop going to bars before making decisions,” he said.

Mpuuga, who was once the Leader of the Opposition under the NUP, had a falling out with the party's principal, Kyagulanyi, in March. This followed revelations that Mpuuga, the Nyendo Mukungwe legislator, negotiated and received Shs500 million as a service award. NUP condemned the cash token, while Mpuuga defended it as a justified gratuity, leading to his suspension from the main opposition party leadership.
