Rwamagaya Parishoners in greater Kampala bid farewell to Rev. Fr. Charles Mugabe
Farewell Mass for Rev. Fr. Charles Mugabe at Rwamagaya Parish by Davis Owomugisha
Rwamagaya Parish, established in 1991, has seen many priests come and go, often leaving amidst conflict. However, Rev. Fr. Charles Mugabe has made a remarkable difference by leaving the parish in peace.
Rev. Fr. Charles Mugabe has been transferred to Rutenga parish, along with Fr. Nicholas, the Assistant Parish Priest. Despite the changes, the Christians of Rwamagaya Parish are encouraged to build their capacity and strengthen systems for smooth parish operations.
During his four years at Rwamagaya Parish, including two challenging years of COVID-19, Fr. Charles Mugabe achieved several significant milestones:
1. Bonding and Unity:
- He successfully mobilized Kampala Rwamagaya Parishioners and strengthened their bond with Christians back home, emphasizing the importance of unity.
2. Strategic Planning:
- Fr. Charles initiated a five-year strategic plan for Rwamagaya Parish, which we have begun implementing. This plan led to the reorganization of our schools.
3. Educational Support:
- With support from the diocese and government, our schools now have qualified teachers. Fr. Charles replaced ineffective headteachers, ensuring better leadership and a clear path to development.
4. Income-Generating Projects:
- Under his guidance, the parish initiated alternative sources of income. We planted coffee on six acres of land, expanded parish boundaries, and encouraged every Christian to plant coffee. A coffee machine will be installed at the parish, providing ready income for all.
5. Recognition:
- Rwamagaya Parish was mentioned three times at the diocese for its innovative projects, including a biogas project and the revitalization of Rwamagaya Sacco, now boasting over 100 shares.
6. Land Management:
- Fr. Charles emphasized the importance of measuring church land and acquiring land titles, ensuring proper land management.
Rev. Fr. Charles Mugabe's tenure at Rwamagaya Parish has been transformative. His initiatives and dedication have set the parish on a path to growth and development. As he moves to his new assignment, we thank him for his service and pledge to continue building on the foundation he laid.
